[[Edited to add: I can’t belive it, I uploaded the wrong thumbnail to Illustration Friday! Ugh! Sorry!]] = : o
For Illustration Friday’s "Communication" Challenge, a sketch of my Nokia N80 camera phone. Besides the obvious call-making, I text A LOT and moblog as well using the camera phone, photo editor, and internet on the phone. Drawn w/ pencil in my Moleskine.

Toothy Toad Revisited
I recently drew my "favorite item" which is EDM challenge #6 ("everyday matters"), a "toothy toad" hinged storage box I got off ebay several years ago. The first try is here. I was unhappy w/ it, so I wanted to do it again, but to improve my eye, I wanted to try doing pieces of it. EDM link 1, link 2. So tonight I finished this:

I got a MacBook I got a MacBook!
I got a MacBook I got a MacBook! I’m so psyched! They opened up a new Apple Store nearby and I finally got my MacBook. I’ve been wanting one for a LONG time.
So last night I drew this little bit:

Oh and, only after scanning it did I realize that I had written "iBook" when it’s realy a "MacBook" (yes, it matters, lol).

Barens and Noble Color Pencil Test
I recently mentioned the mini colored pencils from Barnes and Noble that come in a little CD case. Last night I did a test with both of the cd-case-sized ones and decided they are the same. I did a test in the Mead Academie Sketchbook that I got, and also, of course, my Moleskine. Here is a scan of the test…
… "small" being the ones on the right, and "larger" being the ones on the left in this picture-
ALSO, while I was not able to find these cd-case-sized items online, I did find that BN does have some of it’s art supplies online here.

Face, Incomplete, 1998
I’ll upload a couple more drawings from my archives today. Here is one of a face that I started but never completed, in 1998. It’s a small image, small drawing.

Barnes & Noble Art Supplies
Barnes and Noble has a bunch of cool, portable art supplies. I love their little colored pencils that come in the CD case. Today I got the water colors to try.
I actually took a lot of pix of what they have at BN and will uplod them in a minute they are here:

Paint with coffee?
Huh, this is something! Just a couple days ago I was looking at coffe ring on paper and wondered what would happen if someone tried to make art out of it, i.e. paint with it. Then today I just found this:

EDM #5 Draw Your Bed
I decided to do EDM #5, Draw Your Bed. I wanted to sit ON my bed, so this is my view from ON the bed. That’s not the headboard, that’s a sideboard that goes only partially down the sides (it’s a trundle bed opened up). The Pug decided to sit in and so he got in the picture. I really have a hard time drawing people/animals from life. I prefer drawing animals from photos.
EDITED TO ADD: This is the first drawing in a long time that was not drawn in my moleskine. I bought a Mead Academie sketchbook to try. It’s not as portable as my Moleskine, but I just wanted to try some different paper.
EDITED TO ADD: What I saw while drawing last night…

Legs 1998 Incomplete
Here is an incomplete drawing from 1998, of a leggy lady. I want to get a Wacom drawing tablet (hint! hint!) so that I can maybe complete this one, or at least darken the light unfinished lines. The second scan is a blown-out version so that you can see the light lines that make up the rest of the pre-sketch. This was done on copy paper with pencil, as were most of my drawings from that time.

Toothy Toad
I just drew this and colored it w/ colored pencils. I’m not happy w/ it. For one, I just drew it sorta wrong. Then as usual, as soon as I start coloring it w/ colored pencils, I’m unhappy w/ it. Then, when I was done, I scanned it, the scan never shows what I see. Then I look again, and I think it’s too 2-dimensional. I’m really not happy w/ it. But I love this toothy-toad. It’s a little hinged box you can keep stuff in. I was sorta thinking of it as my EDM #6 "draw your favorite or well-loved object, or childhood toy". Idunno. I’m tired and cranky and don’t feel good. So I’m gonna go to bed and think about this tomorrow. Oh, this is the object, by the way.

My new avatar, sketch, Riley Pug
I made a new avatar for use online on various websites. It’s from a drawing of my Pug Riley that I did in my Moleskine. I pulled it into Photoshop and did some coloring using photoshop.
It’s based on this photo:
Here’s the original sketch:
I SO LOVE HIM! He’s my fur-child.

EDM 2 – Draw A Lamp
I did EDM #2, today, Draw A Lamp. I’m doing EDM from the beginning but not necessarily in order- my intention is to do it in order from #1 on, but, for example, at a recent meeting I was at, there were no lamps in the room, so I drew my wallet and my cup which are #3 and #4. Oh man I’m tired, I gotta go to bed. 4:12am (my blog timestamp is off). EDITED TO ADD: The little cartoon cursing in the upper corner is from this post, where the scanner ate my moleskine.

Oranges
I saw these oranges in the book "The Creative License" and just wanted to draw them. I drew them in my Moleskine.

Tulip
Here is a Tulip drawing I did on Wed., 2-14-07. I drew it while at my Mom’s, she had flowers for Valentine’s Day sent by my brother. I am currently playing w/ scanner settings to see what works best.
This was the first drawing in my second Moleskine.

Reading and Drawing
Taking "The Creative License" with me everywhere I go and reading when I can, and drawing when I can, even while waiting for food in restaurants.
I love this book.

Oh no – Scanner
The scanner ate my paper. I was going to post earlier to say that I’m not real happy w/ the paper in my second Moleskine, the purple one where I cut out the folders and glued in the 3 small Moleskine Cahiers; the paper is REALLY thin compared to the regular Moleskine sketchbook. I thought "Oh well, don’t be a whiner". So I figured I’d just draw on the right-side of the paper, leaving the left side blank. Then I went to scan in my artwork today, and the first thing that happened is that the drawing on the next page was showing through the thin paper. So when I went to RE-SCAN it, the super-thin paper got in-between the glass and the plastic edge. It would NOT come out and no matter HOW careful I was, it would not slide back out, resulting in this (below) as well as paper permanently stuck in the scanner’s edge. I hope HOPE HOPE this does no affect the scanner. I really like this scanner. Crap!
So what next. Maybe just use my hacked moleskine for notes instead (what a waste). Ugh. What to do. I mean, I HAVE other Moleskines, including the new one I got as a gift on Wednesday.

Waiting Room – phase 2
Phase 2 of "Waiting Room". (Here’s phase 1) I Darkened the lines and added some lame shading. Not sure it’s much different. That skinny guy in the foreground really was quite skinny, I think he was real sick. Didn’t seem old at all (40’s? 50’s), had a walker. I started coloring it today and sometimes I think I ruin my work by adding colored pencil. But we’ll see how that part turns out. OH AND, I wrote in the date on the sketch page but wrote the WRONG DATE!
It’s supposed to read "2-15-07".
Another thing… this is in that Hacked Moleskine I did, where I took out the folders and glued in 3 cahiers. I didn’t realize this until today, but those cahiers, the paper is different. It’s much thinner, and I think the colored pencil behaves differently on it.
